MAX’S ANTUR

“I’m after a gravel bike for taking down the local trails and for multi day bike packing”

About

BMXer, MTBer and Tall bike rider Max loves all things two wheels.

After escaping from a pretty horrendous crash which involved a steep hill a car a broken jaw and a smashed up bike. Max came to me looking for a replacement.

His brief was not so simple.

‘I’m after a bike for taking down the local trails and for multi day bike packing.’

The bike max was after is what I would call a ‘mongrel’ a mix of two breeds of bikes, an all-road bike and MTB rolled into one.

Challenge accepted.

We decided on a gravel bike set up for bike packing bags and the options to run both 700c and 650b.

The setup meant 650b with a wider tyre could be used for the local, muddy, rooty, rocky trails. And the 700c can be put on for longer multiday rides where the terrain is not so demanding.

The Columbus Futura Cross fork has a alternating fork offset which means you can run both wheel set ups without majorly effecting the ride characteristics.

Of course an internally routed dropper post had to be fitted to cause major outrage. As he would be running Shimano GRX 1x the dropper is controlled on the brake levers.

Paint colour was inspired by his Grans old custom road bike which had been built by Cardiff frame builder Bryan Warnett in the 1980s, so it was a real privilege to pay homage.

Stu at the local Summit Customs did a perfect job on the paint and decals.
