Finn’s ANTUR - A bike with Wales in its very fabric

Finn’s ANTUR

Introduction

A bike with Wales in its very fabric. Finn’s build truly has been inspired by Wales.

Finn got in touch with us to commission an ANTUR. He wanted a ‘do it all’ bike. Something he could take off-road to explore the trails, bikepacking and something for touring and commuting.

To really make it his own Finn wanted to use our paintwork service to make something really special.

Inspiration

Finn is a geologist and part of his masters research project he studied how the Earth was forming in Anglesey 150 million years ago.

By studying the shapes of crystals taken from rock sections he was able to explain and build a story of how the Earth was forming at that particular point in time.

Full of texture, depth, colours and crystals the thin rock sections would become the inspiration for Finns paintwork.

Paintwork

Jack Kingston is the brains behind the paint. I knew he was the right person for the job as the previous work he had carried out for James’ Pollock Inspired ANTUR was spot on.

The paintwork for Finn’s bike has strongly been based on Blueschist which was taken from the ‘Penmynydd Zone’ on Anglesey.

When creating custom paintwork we are never looking for an exact replica, instead we are trying to achieve a representation of the idea, and I think, and I hope you do too, that Jack's representation of Finn's idea is flawless.

Textures, depth and a mixture of metallic and matte details. Everything we had been looking for but not in a way we could have imagined. Simply perfect.

‘That’s genuinely been one of my trickiest effects to date’

Build

Finn’s frame has been built using a blend of Columbus Life and Zona tubing which in our experience is best suited for both hard off-road riding and also covering distance on the asphalt. The steel helps soak up harsh vibrations that would otherwise be amplified with contemporary materials .

All fillets have been filed and hand sanded to provide a smooth and undisturbed transition between the tubing joints. In keeping with the clean look we decided to run the brake hose internally using fully lined stainless steel tubing. Not only does this allow for clean lines but it also makes assembly a breeze as the hose can simply be fed through the frame without the need for ‘fishing’.

Complete

In contrast to the highly textured and detailed paintwork the build kit has taken a less ‘busy’ approach.

SRAM Rival/GX Mullet AXS graces the bike meaning there are no cables to hide or get in the way and gives plenty of gear range to tackle steep rocky ascents to fast sprints on the tarmac.

As this bike will be used for bikepacking explorations we decided to run a Whisky CXLR fork which allows for luggage to be mounted when needed. Bottle cages have been lowered in the main frame to allow for frame bags and a third bottle mount is added to the lower side of the downtube which can be used for tool storage.

Purave Velo escape carbon wheels laced to Aivee Classic hubs are a solid grouping for a harsh life off-road.
